Company Name Suggestions
Finding the right company name can seem like a daunting task.
More than likely, you'll have run a number of variations around your head and still come back with
zilch!
So where do you
find company name
suggestions that are not only relevant, but will
label your business with the best possible name?
Well, you could pay for a specialised firm to supply you with
company name suggestions, but this could be costly and not necessarily rewarding.
You could just use the core name of what your business is about
(though this will probably be boring and unmemorable) or, with a bit of hard work and imagination on your
part, you could find the perfect company name yourself (and save yourself a few dollars into the
bargain).
There are a number of ways of getting your initial company name
ideas, but nowhere better than the internet. I will show you how I personally get the best list of words,
that will eventually translate into the ultimate company name.
Google has it's very own free tool for searching keywords by
popularity (and remember, what people search for most, is what you want a slice of). Type "keyword selector
tool" into the Google Search box and follow the instructions on the site. It will ask you to put a keyword in
the box.
Now, as an example,
if your company deals in dog training, you would enter those keywords. This would then formulate a list in
descending order, of the most popular searched for words/phrases for that term.
At this point you may be surprised to find related keywords that you hadn't thought
of previously.
Copy and paste all
the keywords that catch your eye into a text document and call this your "company name suggestion
journal".
Now you have a list of base keywords with which to work, you will need to add some
more words to your list.
Depending on the
nature of your business and the type of name you are looking for, will determine the next lot of content that you
add.
If for example, your business is lighthearted in nature, then a comic spin is always
a winner. People like names that are humorous, and they will remember them easily (this should be the most
important point when choosing a company name).
The second most important point is to choose a name that people
can easily spell (especially if your business is internet based). People will not spend time trying different
variations of your name in an effort to track you down.
Now, these ideas may not be applicable if you have a business
that is very serious in nature. In this instance, you want to get to the point. Let people know exactly what
business you are in, but still try to make your company name as memorable as possible.
I'm now going to make you stop and think a little, and I'll use
some well know company names to emphasise my points.
During the eighties, it was fashionable for companies to use
names that meant nothing, but caught on like wildfire. Google for example, is now a household name, but what
does it mean? Well, it doesn't really matter does it? it worked!
On the other hand, Kentucky Fried Chicken is exactly what it
says. The fact that it indicates the recipe is from Kentucky, appeals to the buyers imagination. Deep fried
chicken does not quite have the same effect.
I guess what I am trying to say, is to think outside your box.
Make people laugh, wonder, imagine and think. A good company name, potentially, will stay with you for life
and maybe even your children's life and beyond. It's that powerful!
Add to your list
regularly. Get ideas from TV, magazines, friends, wherever you can. Put a spin on the words. Mis spells can make
really catchy business names. The main thing is to look for Company Name Suggestions everywhere, some come from the most unlikely places.
